I have a number of New Year's Resolutions this year. One of them is to post on my blog every day.
Every day. Post something. A minimum of three words (and those words don't have to be logical or related).
So some days you might get something like "Butter Fish Whistle" as a blog post. I invite you to try and guess what's going on in my head on those days.
I will try to do longer blog posts when I can. I'll especially try to put up cartoons or something now and then. I'm taking a Shakespeare class, so there might be some more Shakespeare memes!
Just... I want to do better than I did last semester. Good grief. I apologize to anyone who follows this blog faithfully. I'll do better this year!
Happy 2015, everyone! I hope it brings you happiness!

A New Page on the Blog!
Hey, everybody!
Quick! Look at my blog! Do you see something different? Something that wasn't here the last time you looked at this page?
There's now a tab next to the "Home" and "Digital Portfolio" tabs that's labeled "Intern Blog."
If you click on that tab, you will be taken to the Intern Blog page of the Alabama Heritage website.
Alabama Heritage is the magazine I'm working with as an editorial intern this semester. The magazine office is in Northport, Alabama, just across the Black Warrior River from where I live and attend classes at the University of Alabama. Alabama Heritage is a quarterly magazine that focuses on Alabama history. I do a great deal of fact checking and copy editing for the magazine, but I'm also responsible for writing a blog post every two weeks. My work is featured on the Intern Blog alongside that of current and past AH interns. Take a look!
And here's the link again, just because:

My Favorite Things
New Ford Fiestas and bread with Nutella
Sandwich for lunch next to that cool Sales fella
Out on the deck-- the sun shines, the bird sings
These are a few of my favorite things
Not making phone calls and still getting work done
Knowing tomorrow's a day just to have fun
Netflix that plays and an iPhone that rings
These are a few of my favorite things
Hot Earl Grey Tea and a chat while it's steeping
Big, fluffy pillows so perfect for sleeping
Blogging the night away 'til my eye stings
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog barks
When the sun burns
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
AND THEN I DON'T FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL SOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!
Today was a pretty good day.
I figured I owed everyone a little extra effort tonight since I didn't blog last night (although I think one night I blogged twice, so it should all even out), so I give you a parody of "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music. It talks, obviously, about a few of my favorite things about today. Except Netflix. I actually didn't watch Netflix at all today (GASP), but it's still one of my favorite things.

First Free Day
Whoa! Almost forgot to write a blog post tonight! It wasn't my fault. My aunt had Sherlock on when I got back from dinner. I got distracted.
I will be working at my internship on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so today, being Wednesday, was my first day off. I'm kind of extremely happy about how my schedule worked out. It means I work a day, get a day off to recover, work another day, and then I get a four-day weekend!
I really hate that I'm already complaining about having to work at this internship. I shouldn't be feeling that way. I really need to be grateful that I got a position with this company that is being so flexible and in a town where I have free and entertaining lodging- dogs included. It's just... Well, I was originally told that I was going to be working four hours a day, and now I'm working eight hours a day, not including an hour-long lunch break. That first day kinda took a lot out of me, you know? And that wasn't even a full-length day.
I mean, you saw in that last blog post where they made me talk to people on the phone, right? (I know, I know, I need to get over it and be an adult.)
Living in a new place and starting a new internship can just be hard sometimes, I guess. Especially since this magazine stuff is so new to me. I'm an English major, so all I know about journalism comes from the class I took in seventh grade and my time as a high school correspondent for my local newspaper. Also, I'm already stressed out because driving in Richmond is harder than what I'm used to.
But in cases like these, I know it's important to focus on the positives. For example, yesterday I learned how to fact check an article. Basically, you just call the people you're writing about (AAAAAAAAAH) and make sure your information is right and your telephone number works, and if there's a website, go there and make sure the URL works.
Also, the people at my office are all pretty friendly. My supervisor got married over the weekend, so they had cupcakes for him in the morning, and I got to have one. The computer I'm working at has a touch screen, and while I don't use it, it's still cool to have. The screen saver is bubbles that float around the screen. Best of all, there's a little deck with a picnic table behind the office. I can eat my lunch there, breathe a little bit, not look at a computer screen or traffic, and recharge my being-with-and-talking-to-people batteries.
So there's a lot of good stuff about this internship. But the title of this blog post is First Free Day.
I stayed up late last night, and I slept in late this morning. And it was glorious.
I watched Justice League on my aunt's giant TV. And it was glorious.
I ate English muffins with peanut butter for breakfast and cheesy scrambled eggs on toast for lunch. The food was glorious.
I wore my favorite marching band t-shirt and my favorite crimson athletic shorts with houndstooth stripes. And it was glorious.
I explored the immediate area on foot, the method of transportation with which I am most comfortable. And it was glorious.
I saw a sign for a dentist whose name was basically Davey Crockett. And it was glorious.
I bought a little box of fancy chocolates from the chocolate shop, making sure to bring one home for my aunt. And it was glorious.
I found a whole bunch of places to eat lunch. And it was glorious.
I bought a green tea frappuccino at Starbucks. And it was confusing, because I had fully intended to order a green tea lemonade, but somehow the word "frappuccino" came out of my mouth. But it was still glorious.
I started feeling dehydrated and sick on my way home. That wasn't so glorious.
My aunt told me that there is, indeed, a Moe's Southwest Grill in Richmond. And it was glorious.
I went to dinner with a friend that I haven't seen since middle school. And it was glorious.
I watched Sherlock with my aunt, accompanied by her two dogs and to the tune of a gentle thunderstorm. And it was glorious.
Then I sat down to write this blog post, and I had intended to just write about my day today, but then my feels started coming out. Man, I hate it when that happens.
I guess I just needed that. I didn't talk to hardly anyone about my first day yesterday. Mostly I just wanted to curl up in a ball. "Please don't ask me about my day. I don't want to talk about my day. Don't ask me about my day."
It's okay. I ate some pasta. Then I felt better.
Okay! Game plan for tomorrow: Get up. Get ready. Make a lunch. Eat breakfast. Go to the office. Do work. Wait as long as I can to have lunch. Do more work. Come home. Scream a little. Have a snack or just dinner. Watch some YouTube videos. Relax. Celebrate the fact that I have four days of freedom.
Sounds easy, right?

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope the year has treated you well and that you're enjoying the holiday season with friends and family! I hope next year is even better!
Santa Claus brought me Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 for Christmas! I was playing around on it, and I thought I'd whip up a little Christmas card to thank everyone for reading my blog! I really appreciate your readership and support.
Did you know that this Christmas marks my one-year anniversary of owning this site? One year ago today, my dad gave me a framed screenshot of my blog to let me know that I was the new owner of rebeccamast.com. I was so excited! I didn't post until New Year's Eve, though, because I couldn't decide what to write about!
I'll have to think of something special to do for the anniversary of my first post!
Until then, Merry Christmas! May your new year be full of comfort and joy!

Additional Haiku of the Day - Jan. 25
French blogging is hard.
Oรน se trouve mon dictionnaire?
This assignment stinks.
I have to blog about French business for one of my classes. In French. I like my own blog better. Business and politics confuse me in English, so trying to learn all this in French is kind of hard. I'm sure it'll get easier and more entertaining when my classmates and I get used to it.
I foresee myself coming out of this semester with a broad understanding of business and its practices but not being able to say a word about it in English.

The App, The Blog, And The Internet
At this very moment, I'm on a charter bus. I have been on this charter bus for a total of twelve-ish hours today, and I'm still far from my destination. There are some really fun people on this bus. There are some really quiet people on this bus. Some of the people on this bus play the baritone, and if you've played in a marching band for a few years, that information ought to give you an idea of how this bus ride is going.
I finished my book. It was very entertaining, but now I have nothing to read. I'm up to date on Facebook and Twitter. I'm not feeling especially talkative. I'm not currently feeling sleepy. To entertain myself, I thought I'd write a blog post.
I have an iPhone with beautiful, lovely, gorgeous Internet capabilities. I'm on a charter bus that has WiFi. You'd think this would be a match made in heaven, but in fact, I have never been able to get my iPhone to connect to the bus Internet. Therefore, I've been rockin' the 3G for a while.
It was over 3G that I pulled up Safari on my phone and went to the Blogger website. A little orange box at the top of the page complained that it didn't like my browser. I ignored the little orange box and opened up a new post. The website promptly quit working.
Not one to be defeated by technology, I decided to go to the App Store and download the Chrome app to see if that browser would find more favor in Blogger's eyes. It did. Kind of. But it was pretty irritating to type in the normal document-thingy. The screen on my phone is a bit small for that, and it got intolerable once I started trying to make some words bold. So I gave up on that.
I went back to the App Store and downloaded the actual Blogger app. I would have downloaded the app a while ago, but I had seen a few negative reviews and decided I could live without it. But desperation drove me to it, and I winced while installing yet another app over 3G.
So far the app seems okay. Not perfect, I guess, but it's much easier to use than the website. I appreciate it.
So, yeah. That's my story about the app, the blog, and the Internet. I've still got a few hours to go on this trip, so who knows? Perhaps I'll tell another story before the night's done. Or maybe I won't. Maybe I'll go to sleep. Maybe I'll just listen to the baritones who got a hold of the bus microphone. Or maybe I'll write a novel. Or maybe I'll go to sleep.
