Worst Game of Solitaire Ever

I just played a round of solitaire in which I couldn't make a single move.

Seriously.

I flipped through the entire deck without finding a single move to make, and then the little box popped up and said there were no moves left.

What the heck, Solitaire.

SNOWMAGEDDON is over

I got out of classes for three days in a row because it snowed on Tuesday. It seemed kinda dumb to me, but then there were people trapped in their cars on the highways overnight, so... maybe better safe than sorry?

I'd love to say that I got so much homework and cleaning and writing done over those three days, but no... I did watch a lot of Justice League, though. More Justice League than I care to admit. Man, I love that show.

Maybe I need to give up Netflix for Lent.

But today we had classes again. Most of the snow is gone- just a few patches left in the shade. I saw a pretty funny hill (the same one down which people were sledding in laundry baskets) which had a perfectly straight line of snow running across it. It's right next to a parking garage, you see, and the parking garage leaves the bottom half of the hill in perpetual shade.

It's Friday and it feels like Monday. I don't really know how to deal.

I'm really, really not looking forward to the weekend. I'm kinda sick of having time off. At least this time the entire world won't be shut down.

That was the worst part about Snowmageddon '14. We don't know how to deal with snow in the South. I'm not sure we own a single snowplow. I saw sand on some of the campus roads, and I heard reports of gravel being put down on other roads, but we still had a bunch of roads closed and the aforementioned people trapped on the highway. I have a friend who couldn't get home and had to spend two days at a friend's apartment.

Since the roads were in such bad shape, everything was closed- even the campus buildings. I couldn't really go anywhere. I couldn't hang out with my friends, either, since most of them live off-campus and shouldn't have been on the roads. I had the worst combination of "Booooooo cabin fever! Aaaaaagh I'm gonna go insaaaaane!" and "I've got pretzel sticks, Nutella, and 72 HOURS TO WATCH NETFLIX!!!"

So my goal for next week is to start acting like a human being again.

Let's end with a song!

Weird Dreams

I don't often remember my dreams... I have a feeling that's because I don't get enough sleep. But when I do remember them, it's often because they were pretty weird.

Last night I dreamed about the TV show Hannah Montana. I didn't even like that show. I thought it was perfectly tolerable in its earlier seasons, but the longer it went on, the more I disliked it. So I have absolutely no idea why I had a really long dream about it.

I don't remember much about the dream. I remember thinking that not a single bit of it made any sense. The only part that I can clearly recall was Hannah Montana's brother Jackson acting like some kind of dangerous pet- a scorpion or tarantula or something- in a big glass case. He was, like, hissing at someone. I think he was doing it to make a point.

Yeah, I have no idea.

But my sister called me and yanked me out of the dream. I'm kind of grateful to her for that, because that was a weeeiiiird dream.

My brain comes up with some pretty weird stuff sometimes. Maybe it's better that I don't remember my dreams very often...

But did I tell you about the one with Wolverine running around a city at night and turning into Jackie Chan while the government was sending people over a waterfall on rafts and I was floating around, sitting on a cymbal tied to a big balloon and trying to buy a sleeping bag and looking for an apartment for my refugee family?

Winter Art

I had some time on my hands since our classes were cancelled due to snow, and I just wasn't content with the dancing moose I drew for the last post, so I decided to whip up a little something extra for you.

This is based on a scene I saw upon returning to my dorm after walking around my snowy campus for a few hours. A bunch of people were sledding down a hill- except this is the deep South, and hardly anyone actually has sleds, so they were using whatever they had that could slide on snow. I saw cardboard boxes, cookie sheets, plastic storage tubs, and even a laundry basket. The laundry basket seemed to be working quite well. I was surprised and impressed.

Here's the version without the sledder. I realized as I was painting it that I loved the simplicity of the background.

Moose Walk

It actually snowed enough that we got out of classes today... and tomorrow. That's huge. It doesn't snow here.

To celebrate, here's a dancing moose.

Rene

Sometimes doodling is good for brainstorming.

Translation: "Waaaah! Alas! I am alone on the earth!"

I'm writing a short paper about Chateaubriand's Rene' tonight for my French literature class. To put it as un-academically and unsympathetically as possible, Rene is a whiny little forever alone guy. I'm not counting the wife that the Indians in Louisiana made him marry. He pretty much ignores her.

The caption in the cartoon is almost word-for-word what the text says. I didn't even make up the "alas."

I thought this paper was going to be easy because the minimum length requirement is one page and it's only a rough draft. I guess I forgot that I write about three times more slowly in French than I do in English. It hurts my brain a lot more, too.

New Headphones

Look! I got new headphones! These ones aren't falling apart, and they're not even cheap ones that a flight attendant gives you for free!

Now I no longer need music for long drawing sessions... but I could still use exercising and writing music!

Let the tunes commence!
